Seeing Things More Clearly
If you had one final lecture to share with a group of students on what you have learned from this course, what would you share?
Take this course seriously. Dig deep, really applying what you are reading to your personal life. In doing so you will find out or begin to find out your path and purpose. Treat this class as the beginning of a journey of discovery.
What would be your last bit of advice to someone wanting to begin the entrepreneur journey?
If you know without a doubt that this journey is the right one for you. I would first find a group of mentors who you trust to be “real”. People who will not be afraid to call you out for what you are doing right and wrong. People who will be honest with you.
I would then set a list of priorities in your life. Make a list of “I Will Never’s” and “I Will always” keep it somewhere safe and refer to it frequently.
What words of advice, direction, or caution would you give him or her if you had only one chance to give your own last lecture?
Don’t forget who you are. Don’t forget your roots. Don’t forget to laugh and have fun. Enjoy the journey. Stay close to the Lord. Make time for family. Learn that it is ok to say no. Failures will happen, expect them, then stand tall put on your boots and get back to work.
My eyes have been opened, or are beginning to be opened to who and what I need to do with my life.
My only regret is that I wish I had taken this class 28 years ago. I think I would have approached different situations and decisions differently. I truly believe that my life would have taken a different more defining path.
“This is a Jim Ritchie list of suggestions that most successful people have incorporated. And they're striving to get each of them into an ideal performance state, preparing for their peak performance opportunity. Let's make it happen. Get prepared, because your opportunities will come and if you are not striving to be in ideal performance data at your best, your days of standing on the victory podium will pass to another. My friends, it's time to make it happen.”
Personal Constitution
“I am Financially self-reliant”
“I am physically fit”
“I am identifying my skills and talents”
“I am a product of what I eat”
“I understand the value of work”
“I am a leader”
“I am creative”
“I am mentally tough; I don’t complain”
“I am a communicator”
“I can motivate without depreciating others”
“I am like the great enlightened masters of history”
As I read through this list, I can see some of these personal constitutions that I am confident to claim that I exhibit. Then there are some that are not my strong suites and then there are some that I desire to become my strengths instead of my weaknesses.
I feel my draw in life is more to serve in the church and community rather than to own a business. I have never seen myself as a leader and I hope I have not missed my opportunities because I have not cultivated these personal constitutions into my life. I know it is not too late, I can still grow and become who the Lord needs me to be. I may not know my purpose right now but I am striving to seek who and what that is. It will come with time, I am confident in that.
I do know my calling and pathway is not in becoming an entrepreneur.
Reading Pres. Monson talk “Finishers Needed”, I know I will be a finisher. I know I will stand valiant on that the last day. Standing tall to my values, testimony, and my belief in the Book of Mormon. I will stand firm, believing in Christ, as my brother, Savior, and Redeemer.
“Stick to your task ‘til it sticks to you;
Beginners are many, but enders are few.
Honor, power, place, and praise will always come to the one who stays.
“Stick to your task ‘til it sticks to you;
Bend at it, seat at it, smile at it, too;
For out of the bend and the sweat and the smile will come life’s victories after a while.”
